Deuteranopia is the most common form of color blindness, affecting the green-sensitive cones in the eye. People with deuteranopia have difficulty distinguishing between red and green. It affects roughly 6% of males. This is why red/green traffic lights use brightness and position - not just color - to convey meaning.

Protanopia is a type of red-green color blindness caused by the absence or nonfunction of the red-sensitive cones in the eye. People with protanopia have trouble distinguishing reds from greens, and reds may also appear darker than expected. Like deuteranopia, it is one of the red-green color vision deficiencies, which are the most common forms of color blindness.

Tritanopia is a rarer form of color blindness that affects blue-yellow color perception. People with tritanopia may have difficulty telling blue from green, purple from red, and yellow from pink, and some colors can appear less bright. Unlike protanopia and deuteranopia, tritanopia is uncommon compared with red-green color vision deficiencies.
